Weighing in scrap metal
« on: 16 October 2012, 11:57:00 »

Are there any rules/regulations/permits required by a private individual to weigh in scrap metal? My son has been told you need a Licence, but surely this is for Traders not Joe Public? Any comments much appreciated  :y

Never a problem, contact details with I.D, license my arse ::) ::)

I think paying out in cash stops next month for the legit scrappers :y

I heard that the government is bringing a licence system out to help combat the crime in stolen metals

In terms of collecting it yourself door to door you would probably need a waste transfer type licence but taking your own stuff just photo ID

Thanks lads, it's only bits of my old heating system pipework, dud car battery etc. I thought he was being a bit melodramatic about the licence ;D :y

Have wondered about this as well , seems to be more and more tipper trucks trolling the streets for metal more than ever now  ::) one is a pikey and 3 others are independent private ones ... must be a fair bit of money in scrap metal .

Depends on the yard.

The new legislation requires proof of identitiy and address plus the payemnt is sent to the address.

Quite a few yards are going along the lines of not dealing with anybody not registered on thier books.

There was a report on south today, that some scrapers had the police round checking all sorts due to thefts. My local scrapy being one of them.

...this was a report in the south of he country by the way, as it was on SOUTH today, so obviously that only affects south of Brackley. ;)

All you need is a driving licence with photo I.D. I've been in quite a few times with scrap parts & old batteries etc.
