hi folks, can i ask if anyone knows the time allowed under autodata to change 1 or 2 coil packs on my 2.6 v6 mv6 2001 ?
short story, had misfire called aa they came out car showed multi misfire faults and knock sensors. car went to garage and as i have garage repair cover with aa they called to make claim, they diagnosed car at the garage but unsure whether the oil in wells had caused misfire then knock sensore or whether coil packs had fault so anyway aa allowed them 1 hour to find and rectify problem.
the aa said they would pay 1 hour labour plus 1 coil pack.
so the garage told me and to save bother i paid for rocker cover gaskets to get done at same time to take that cause out. and they via the aa changed the coil pack on passenger side.
hoping that would fix it,the car seemed to run fine for about a mile or so, faults still showing knock sensor fault 0330 it did show also 0325 but that not on now, the car has also still got misfire, so back to square one.
i called the aa and they are looking in to it but they say according to autodata time allowed to change coil packs is 1 hour which includes diagnosing fault,can this be right?
and what to do now?

There's no point changing the cam cover gaskets for non genuine parts, as they don't last. The breathers also need cleaning out otherwise they will fail again in short order.

An hour sounds reasonable to change the coil pack, IMHO. As to whether it was actually faulty in the first place.. Who knows? Did they do any proper testing on it or just change it?

Are you still getting any misfire codes?

Has the cam belt been done recently? Often the bank 1 knock sensor wire can get trapped under the aux belt pulley bracket.

yes, changed gaskets to genuine gm ones. breathers not cleaned.

Are you still getting any misfire codes?
at present getting knock sensor code 0330, spanner light comes on and off, but when you rev car to say 4/5000 rpm and let foot off you get definate miss/splutter etc.

as far as i am aware the belts were all done 75k its 87k now, it did show code 0325 also but wiggled wire about a wee bit and since then that code not coming up.

hi guys,

so i did a bit of diy this morning and cleaned breathers,well i think that's what they were.
any how car still showing code 0330 knock sensor fault.
so,been thinking,any members good mechanics? if so hopefully stay near fife? don't mind travelling a bit but would like to get some help to do couple bits, 1.spark plug change,2. check that knock sensor out,3.check condition coils etc ,4.check level etc for atf.
so is there any members willing to help out please? obviously will help with beer or wine money!
