Surely this site is primarily for exchanging information? Do we really want it to develop into an auction site?

I believe that if we are to allow members to share information about items for sale, the current system of requiring a substantial post count and naming and shaming those who have been proved to the satisfaction of the admins to have caused valid grievances is enough.

If you bought something from a classified in the paper you wouldn't expect them to be vetting sellers.. Caveat emptor.

I agree, not the responsibility of the site to vet sellers or buyers...and why should it be??

Just the responsibility of all to make members aware of any scam sellers or buyers, and the best route is of course through the moderators who can decide what to do about the information...

Difference between this and classified (normally) would be that you generally always collect an item through a paper etc in person so can refuse to buy/make sure you get the item/money there and then...

Whats the extra cost of COD (Cash On Delivery) these days.

No Goods, No Money.  Seller then takes the risk to package it properly.
