The front passenger door lock has been a bit lazy of late so have had to lock it by pushing the button/knob down manually, yesterday it unlocked ok (fine) but now it's locked solid with door shut.

Cannot pull the knob up even with pliers and manipulating the inner and outer door handles at the same time makes no difference. I think it's the deadlock jammed in place.

Is there a way to free this off without having to destroy the inside door card to get at it?

My MoT is due in five days - is an unlocking front passenger door an MoT failure?

Thanks in advance.

It's a year 2000 facelift Elite saloon, and I can't see a way of getting at the screws that hold the panel on with the door shut.

Going to try it again later but not holding out much hope as the Electrics on the lock appear to have completely died. As it's an MoT fail it looks like I will have no choice but to butcher the panel. Anyone know the least damaging way of pulling it off?.

Update. Managed to get it unlocked, phew! Perhaps charging the battery overnight gave the electrics a bit more oomph, and the warmer weather today helped free it off.

Left that door unlocked (parked up against garage) as reluctant to lock it again until I have managed to get the card off and have a look.

How likely is it that just lubricating the bits will help? It's unlikely I will be able to replace the mechanism before the MoT in the next few days so will not lock it again until MoT has been done.

It's almost always the microswitch in the central locking motor so I doubt lubrication would help. As it's failed in the deadlocked state once, I wouldn't trust it again, TBH.

Not too bad a job. Have a look here:

Thanks Kevin that's really help full.

MoT booked for tomorrow, so hopefully if nothing major leads to a fail I will then try replacing the micro-switch s suggested.

Looking at the RS website, they sell the switch currently for £1.42p so I might order several in case the drivers door one starts to go.

On the RS website the review confirms the switch is the VX standard part, but a weak link.

Lets hope they don't move it and lock it before they MOT it ;)

Well, good news it passed the MoT fine and the door was not a problem and is unlockable so long as I don't double/deadloock it.

So now I will order the micro switch and set about the repair, but thankfully there's no absolute rush but will do it pronto.

Will let you know how I get on with it (following Kevins great how to guide).  :y
