2013 - Insurance Premium £160K
« on: 09 February 2013, 12:47:22 »

Yes, that is the insurance premium for 2013 to keep Vulcan XH558 in the air!  £160,000!!!! :o :o :o :o
We moan about our car premiums.... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

I have just received the latest Vulcan newsletter, and the operators are confident that she is in great condition and ready for the 2013 season.  But, overall the trustees need to raise £250,000 to cover the insurance, training flights, certification and general overheads.

To make a donation, but shares, etc, go on to the site www.vulcantothesky.org   :D :D :D :y :y

That's one heck of a premium!I did buy some years ago[when they were restoring it]a sweatshirt with the logo on and a grille badge for the car[I must find that and get it fitted to the Mig]I would love to be able to help out a bit now,think I'll have to make a donation.As an aside I also own a rivet of the Blackburn Beverley that used to stand outside the museum that was near Beverley minster,don't know where that aircraft is now though.

Yeah but how many of those beautiful machines do you see in the air, so would be hard to replace. I think it is a bargain, and if I won the euromillions lottery I would love to get one and a Spitfire. :y :y :y

Cem, the vulcan bomber is no longer an RAF aircraft, it is owned by a private trust.

Have to agree.

If it was good enough for my childhood hero, Matt Braddock VC and bar and his faithful sidekick, George Bourne, then that's fine by me. *

* I know they also flew Lancasters but it was their mossy missions that had me gripped week by week......   :)

Couldn't agree more! :y :y :y

Apart from always reminding me of 633 Squadron, a friend of mine has a father, Dennis, who worked on these as a carpenter/ fitter  with the RAF during the war.  It still somehow doesn't fit that a RAF carpenter / fitter would even touch a Mosquito, but it's wooden construction was the secret of it's great success. 8) 8) 8) 8) :y

Dennis also helped build the wooden invasion gliders for the D-Day landings, and other actions prior to that. :)
