WTC Memorial tour
« on: 26 March 2013, 11:30:22 »

We've just returned from a short trip to NY, and while there, among many activities, we did the World Trade Centre Memorial Tour. The Tour guides were all involved, one way or another, with the tragedy, one of ours was on the 69th floor of the South Tower when hit, and, as he was also there when the 1993 bomb exploded, he sensibly evacuated his office immediately, but had not got far away when it collapsed. The second guide was married to a police officer first responder who is now dying of cancer, as are many of the 'surviving' first responders, attributable to exposure to the dust and debris.
As this shows, http://nymag.com/news/articles/wtc/1year/numbers.htm, among those lost were 343 firemen and paramedics, for whom there is a superb memorial plaque.:o
The Freedom tower is almost complete, and will be 1776 feet to the top of the spire.
This was a very moving tour, and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Apple in the future.
