Airport parking in the Uk
« on: 07 April 2013, 13:16:27 »

I am just back from my trip to the uK. Marvellous sunny and dry weather but very cold!

Flew in to Leeds airport. My brother collected me.  Had to come in the van as the exhaust dropped off his car the previous day.  Cost of parking for 14 minutes.? £6. Car would have been £2. (cost for zero to 30 minutes)  Cost of parking on drop off for my return flight? Zero, I asked him to drop me on the road outside. Easiest £2 I have made for ages.  I have yet to find a Spanish airport that charges for drop off.

Don't ever park at London City to collect someone. Make them ring you when they've cleared the terminal building, and then pick them up. The costs are worse than being burgled!

If on the airport perimeter road then he can expect an invoice

Stanstead has stopped its free drop off, something like £3 for 15 mins now, there new con is in the short term parking which a lot of people use to drop off and help carry the luggage, for years use to £x for the first Hour, £XX for the next hour etc, now its in 50 min increments which catches a lot of people out who dont read the display board properly untill they return to pay.  >:(

I didn't realize that there are now charges just for drop-off/pick-up.

As if flying wasn't enough of a pain in the A***.

I try hard to avoid flying, not aerophobia, I just hate the whole airport experience  >:(. I have a rule, if where I want to go is less than 1,000Km from Calais. I drive

If I have to fly, I try to use Heathrow. After 9.30 am I get there and back for free on train/tube with my old farts Oyster card (thanks Boris!). Just read the newsapaper for an hour  :y

London City not too bad, just be sure to read the signs before you enter the car park. Basically use the right hand car park (long stay) as you drive in. It's been a while since I was last there, but iirc, it was cheaper to buy 3 hours parking than take a chance in the short stay one. :y

Just checked...
Short stay 0-30 £5.50
                   30-1hr £10
                   -2hr £14
                   -4hr £18

Long stay -4hr £16

the biggest problem is that alot of the flights into city are less than 45mins, so you have to set off before the flight does, and only find out it's delayed when you get there :-\

Have spent 5 hours at T5 when a Police Incident, (they were using the helicopter to shoot a fail-to-stop on an industrial estate just north of the airport), closed the both runways about 2 minutes before the flight was due to land. Passenger went to Stansted before returning to Heathrow at about 1 am.

Airport parking and meeting people in the terminal is sooo much easier, it's just a shame that they feel the need to bend everyone over for the privilege.

Doesn't help that some airports have farmed out their carpark management to idiots such as NCP, who having been lumped with tired and neglected carparks have to not only manage them, but also get them up to scratch in the first place, and sadly that costs :-\
