Having recently passed the MOT (well, once Id sorted the headlamp issue out and the wishbones), of course further problems come up.First it was that annoying whine from the front wheel which turned out to be the caliper. With funds low my local garage managed to free it up so that should last until I can better afford a new one so I got lucky there. Then the bloody exhaust started blowing and very quickly my miggie became embarassingly loud
Normally I'd go to the local exhaust centre Ive used for years but as weve recently moved he isnt so local now. Anyhow, we have an STS place over the road from me at work. Ok, I figure they'll be dearer than my usual place but then I'd save about a tenner in fuel from if Id driven to them and also we get some discount rate from work. I drop the car in and go to work. I get the call as promised. £560.
:oWTF. Its the 2 middle sections and I need replacement cat apparantly. So the cats gone??Well, not exactly. Whats that mean? Well, the cats original so its been on some time. Er, yeah? Turns out the cat isnt faulty itself its just the flange is so thin that they wont be able to make the join with the pipes. Naturally I pass and phone my normal centre and he laughs and says no problem, he'll make any bits up for me to repair the flange and quotes £150. Obviously STS either couldnt be arsed to do this (or maybe they simply didnt have the tools/expertise?) and thought theyd make more money out of me by getting me expensive replacement parts I didnt actually need >:(I know the STS unit is very nice with coffee machines and a flat screen tv in the waiting area and they are all very polite and friendly in there, but in this day and age , and in this econmic climate, I struggle to see how they remain as busy as they seem to be if this is the service they give.
