front wheel bearing
« on: 07 May 2013, 12:57:53 »

I have one going on the front of the TD Estate, and was surprised to discover that VX only supply the whole hub assembly. Has anyone pressed out the bearing and replaced it on its own? ???

It's a piy that Gixer Chris isn't still here. He'd be able to tell you rhyme & verse, that despite us all telling him the bearing would press out, the hub IS the outer. I'm sure it's still on the forum somewhere if you search hard enough.

Nige/Entwood will also tell you that the cheap pattern bearing/hub don't last & you'll need a pair replacing while in French France.  :y

It is odd though that the EPC seems to show the bearing as a separate item, unless it just shows the bearing race and inner sleeve. :-\

Complete unit only, easy peasy to change, does need a hefty torque wrench though .... I left the wheel centres and the nut covers off, drove to my local garage and for £2 in the charity box they torqued them up for me .. 320 NM if memory serves.

Cheap ones don't last. Period. Full stop. Point. whichever phrase you want. If I'd gone VX originally I'd have saved a fortune. It took 5 hubs before the single failure one was successfully replaced.. :(... the cheapy one I bought ( £50) ... then 2 in France as they won't change just one side there ... both QH (don't ask the price ... :( ) then 2 Vx ones to replace the QH ones which both had play in from new .. :(
