Great fun that, used to have a go years ago when in the Scouts....... :y :y
probably not allowed now due to health and safety :(
There were a couple of mishaps, and cuts and grazes, but nothing to bother the paramedics. 3 wheel karts are desperately unstable, and rickety old bits of wood cause frequent steering failure as they bounce off the ramp ;D

Dunno 'bout "soap boxes" ... called 'em "gambos" 'round these parts 8)
Looks like a brilliant little event, and great to see kiddies having fun! :y

One observation:

The OOF entry? ... the err ... Silver Bullet ... per chance? :o

They are great examples of what we used to call go-carts in Tunbridge Wells in the 1950s.  Boys used to build them using especially old, big, pram wheels that were available then.  Old Silver Cross prams had large rear wheels, with slightly smaller in front.  Fastened to a simple wooden frame and "soap box" with rope steering they used to go like a rocket down virtually car less roads! :y :y :y

So those images take me back, and what fun those kids are having!  Not an electronic gizmo in sight so of course they are having pure basic enjoyment like kids have always done in the past.

Great sight and the organisers should be congratulated (especially for ignoring the modern fixation on Health & Safety)!!  :D :D :D :D :) :) :)

Good for the organizers for putting it on,and good for so many kids to put the effort in to take part with loads of fun as a reward!Where I grew up and made these-and yes Lizzie some of our wheels were "liberated" from Silver Cross prams-we called them trolleys.

I remember my Dad's delight when I made one as a lad... Using a nice bit of mahogany I found in his garage for the front axle. ::)
