clutch pedal sticking
« on: 19 September 2013, 22:57:21 »

My clutch pedal has started staying down when I press it. Then when I lift the pedal beyond half way it springs back up.  Seems to be an intermittent problem.  I remember it on my old mig but it was so rare I never got round to looking at it before everything else stopped working.  Anyone know what causes it? Are there any manual migs left even? :(

thanks will check tomorrow. It was parked on a slight slope so that may well be it.  Out of interest does anyone know the mechanism whereby low levels cause the sticking?  I'd expect low fluid to stop the clutch operating rather than stop the clutch/pedal releasing.

It could introduce air into the system. A failing slave cylinder might also be a possibility :-\

What mileage has it done, any clutch work :-\

nearly 80K.  Clutch is fine normally, sometimes I think it might just be beginning to slip very slightly but imperceptible at present.

Resolved this I think.  It turned out to be the interior trim above the pedals!  It hangs down a bit between the clutch and brake pedal (there is no securing fastener there) and it seems to have been bent at some time.  The clutch pedal arm was catching in it half way up, just enough to get a sticking sensation. I do remember exactly the same thing on my last mig.  Fluid levels fine.
