I used to belong to a gliding club that was plagued by NIMBYs. Complaining of pilots looking into their upstairs windows while flying, and other such nonsense. Airfield had predated any of the local residents, of course.

On one occasion, the tug aircraft started running rough just when it was taking up slack to launch a glider. A fuel sample was analysed and it revealed a couple of pounds of Tate and Lyle in the tank. :o

The oval circuit at Foxhall heath in Ipswich had a planning complaint upheld against them by the "new residents" of a new estate. Stopped them running the  speed weekend and early closing of other meetings. After about 3 years, the managment decide to appeal the decision on the grounds of how long it had been there compared to the new residents and there houses. they won. The residents stated they did not know they were there when they bought the house. Seems to me they should be sueing there solicitors for not doing the area checks they like charging for

It used to be that if you moved to the nuisance then that is your problem. But these days I'm sure 'uman rights will take president.

It always annoys me when the Farnborough airshow is on that you get people complaining about the noise. Sorry, but the first flight in the UK was by Colonel Sam Cody from Lathens Plain where the airfield is located, which pre-dates any resident still alive and Farnborough since then has been about aircraft. It you don't like aircraft noise, then don't live near an airfield, simples.

A friend of mine are a very old Sandhurst family, where they have traditionally been publicans, you can trace back the surname through the pub licensing records for several hundred years. Anyway he keeps chickens. A local councillor moves to a house nearby and starts complaining about his cockerel crowing in a morning. He got warning letters and then a final warning if he didn't stop the nuisance they were going to take him to court. So he went round to the councillor's house with the cockerell and wrung its neck in front of him saying it won't be a problem to you now. It ended up as a big story in the local press with the councillor complaining how stressful and distressing it was having the cockerell killed in front of him.

Better than going round and wringing the councillor's neck, I guess, maybe  ???  ;)

At that point, if it were me, it would then have been up the councillors arse. Sideways.

A mate of mine sold his terraced pub a while back, due to stress from a neighbour....who buys a house thats attched to a pub and doesnt expect noise!?? He had complaints they could hear the darts going into the dartboard! My mate had the wall soundproofed and it was a big wall, he had to move radiators to do it. Then it was the disco's he held.....too loud! So he had to have a 'traffic light' system installled.....music goes too loud....amber warning....then red and power cut to the disco.....and forced to do this by the local council that gave him his licence. In the end he didnt give a toss....turned off the 'traffic light' system.....let the neighbour complain....and sold the pub.....its now been converted to flats!! All because of a pain in the ass neighbour!
