I've a 3.2 mv6 estate registered during February 2002

I'm after the paint code but the sticker is well and truly trashed.
Is it possible to obtain the code via the chassis vin number ?

The number is W 0L0 VBF3521024502
The colour is some sort of metallic blue

vx services can find I think.. however whatever the paint code is you must spend extra effort for a correct color match..
 
even the number of layers or spray gun setting will make different tones..
 
so either you or someone spray that final mix on a test panel with fix layers of paint coat (assume 3-4 minimum)  also  at least 3 layers of clear coat and wait at least 24-48 hrs for the paint to dry.. then check for match..

hmmm..


compare the color match for roof under the sun.. but dont force yourself  for %100  as plastic parts have a different electrostatic load , so you can never have an exact match even with the same color tone..

dont use bondo , just sand the stone chips until they are lost..  and if you reach the bare plastic surface , use plastic primer than base coat.. (plastic primer must be half wet when spraying base)

There should be a plate with numbers on it for trim and colour on the car usually on door pillar or under bonnet it should have a z and then 3 numbers, iirc

That raises a couple of questions...

Do the numbers tally up between the dash, the floorpan and the V5? have you ever had an HPI check done?

There's only one reason to interfere with that sticker, and it's not accidental

That raises a couple of questions...

There's only one reason to interfere with that sticker, and it's not accidental

First thing I checked when I went down to look at it Al 
The sticker has 3 gouges across it making it pretty hard to read.
Also there is a few scratches in the paint around it so I don't think it was done to hide anything.
The car was used by himself for work (self employed tiler / plumber so the interior was battered about a bit but mechanically, it is very strong 

As for HPI, nup but I know where he lives

not a problem, even cloudy day light is enough

ps: some shops (may) have artificial sunlight equipment (widely used in north countries) and some have color spectrum analyser..
