Tbh I found the 500 more exciting and probably just as fast as the 750. I knew a bloke who had a 750 triple tuned to 90bhp - which was staggering in the 70,s - and was very rapid. Steering damper screwed down to max. at all times. The good old days.  ;) ;D
Z1 900 was nice, but give me a 2 stroke every time. ;)

Holed pistons were pretty common to seventies two strokes. My 1976 RD250 would regularly perform this annoying trick, costing me a fortune in replacements :'(

I also seem to recall that the spark plugs lasted about a week at best........and that both sets of contact breaker points would need changing on a regular basis. :'(

2 stroke were much more fun  :) My old RD250E air cooled was the first big bike , great bike but at the time the GT250-350 were the ones to beat on the regular town to town race . I remember many GT's melting their engines though  ;D

Holed or seized pistons, carry a spare set of plugs under the seat for when they oiled up if you rode slowly through town for a while . :y Top end rebuild was a twice per year ritual and riding with a couple of fingers over the clutch lever to try and catch hit before it seized solid and locked the back wheel was standard. Kwaks used to seize the centre cylinder as it didn't get as much cooling as the outside ones.
To this day I still ride with two fingers over the clutch lever. Old dogs / new tricks. ::) ;D
As I said - the good old days. ;D

They were great those big old Kwakers! My Uncle had a black Z1000 in the mid '80s and bravely (foolishly) let me have a go when I was 16.  :o

It was only a little up and down the yard and I didn't get out of 1st gear. I was kakking it!!!  ;D

Time marches on! My 1983 GPZ1100A1 120bhp, but the reality is that it has only about the same performance as a modern 600 sports bike. 0-60 just over 3 seconds and standing 1/4 is about 11 secs and it is heeeeeeeeeavy at 244kg, so you have to show it who is boss when cornering.
