History of touring cars on TV tonight.
« on: 05 February 2014, 10:29:22 »

Part one of the three parter on tonight at 8p.m. UK time on Sky channel 120 (ITV3?). Someone else will confirm the channel name.

Tonight deals with the early years.

I look forward to seeing the likes of Frank Gardener. I have fond memories of the Lotus Cortinas, Minis, Escorts, Janglias. Maybe we will see our own Dbug!

Actually just had a thought. It may not be that far back but still worth a watch.

Ooohhh...I'd love one of these.

Apparently the sought after MK1's were built on the Lotus production line, right next to the Emma Peel Elan's. :y :y :y

The MK2's were built on the Ford production line........next to Auntie Daisy's Cortina 1300L..... :-\ :-\

Big Bertha. Baby Bertha.....

Do you know Opt, I can still remember the experimental Lotus Cortinas with a boot lid that opened hydraulically when the brakes were applied. My idea was to have a weight that slid to the inside of the corner under the car when I saw that.

I had several Mk1 Lotus Cortinas. Lots of fun but lots of maintenance. I bought an A frame one for a massive 200pounds , fixed the problems and later advertised it for sale in Motorsport. A chap from Italy wanted it and then backed out. He sent me a money order for 100 pounds for my troubles. I broke that car(vandalsim looking back) but made about 600 in total. One guy said he would buy whatever was left and the genuine logbook. I hope the car is still running somewhere.

Thought it was very good, really liked the 7 litre Ford Galaxie . Thought it was great when one old driver  when asked about roll cages  replied "We never even had seat belts" great characters without doubt..
