Bonnet cable
« on: 26 February 2014, 16:52:05 »

Can anyone advise how to get the bonnet cable out of the adjustment box thingy...

I thought I would attempt to adjust my bonnet release cable as it took two to open it. Anyway I think I over did it because the cable has come undone from the spring release and I cant find it.
After speaking to ex taxi al I removed the spring hoping that the cable was still attached but it wasnt so I now dont know what to do because i cant find the cable end I think it has come out of the slam panel. The bonnet is know held down with a boot lace.

I knew I should have left well alone :'(

The cover as in Marks 3rd pic doesn't exist on the Facelifts, having said that it is fairly straight forward, the spring is removed by unlocking the stay pin, turning the whole spring upwards at 90 degrees then lifting out, normally with the cable still attached, fitting is the reverse.

If the spring has come off, undo the cable adjustment clip, then wriggle the cable to locate under the slam panel, you can aid this by sticking your finger underneath through the square hole.  ;)

I have tried wiggling the cable with my figure in the hole but cannot see or feel anything. I think it has gone into that box at the back. I am a bit worried that if I undo the two nuts to much the box might fall off and there is no way to get your hand down the back of the slam panel with taking the rad out.

You dont  have to undo any nuts that hold the main plate.

Worse case, undo the Cable adjuster, as said, pull it out and back in again, your'll get the hang of it.

The hole underneath is before the Rad. ;)

Have you pulled the Cable out yet, is it complete, if so just feed it back in then push back towards the target area.

I have managed to pull the cable out and fed it back in again I then undid the left screw at the back which allows the box/cover to drop away abit. This gave me access to reconnect the cable.

What i still cant figure out is how i slacken the cable off so i can adjust it. is it the other screw and do i turn it clock wise to slacken it off. I couldnt try this because I have to go to work.

Cable adjuster on the slam panel, near the Battery side, right hand side of Radiator.  ;)

Paul, unless Im missing something here, you dont need to touch the Bonnet Mech, its all done by removing the Spring and clipping it back in.
