V8 supercars
« on: 03 March 2014, 20:36:27 »

Skimming through channel guide to find something decent to watch I came across this Australian race series on MotorsTV[a new channel to us].I used to watch this racing some while ago at a time when you either raced a Ford or a Holden. Now it has more marques involved[don't know how long this has been the case, but can only be a good thing I think]Mercedes is one which as they've made V8 engines since forever and are pretty involved in racing is no surprise. The two other marques I saw were however something of a surprise, one was Volvo-when did they start making a V8 powered saloon? The other was Nissan, firstly I didn't realise they still actually made a saloon car at all and secondly I also didn't realise they made a V8.They were definitely badged as Nissan and not their upmarket Infiniti brand. Also as a further aside it seems there is a strong possibility that Ford are to make a V8 engine Focus re-engineered for RWD.

As Andyc pointed out recently, there's plenty that knock the old gm push rod design. But non of the over head cam manufacturers have beaten it. Far from it in fact, from what I've seen.

The new guys came into V8 Supercars last year as they need new funding which wasn't coming from GM or Ford. The Merc is based on the E63 AMG and the Nissan is an all new car for the Asian / Ozzy market and what better way to promote your new car than have it running in one of the best Saloon Car Race Series .

From the first race it looks like HRT have found there old winning streak by beating Red Bull race but it was an action packed race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsMYCufApIA

For more info   http://www.v8supercars.com.au/ , http://www.hrt.com.au/racing/2014/home/en/.

Come on October for the Bathurst 1000
