Windows 7 to windows 8
« on: 08 April 2014, 07:51:56 »

If/when I upgrade to 8, will all of my docs etc. go straight across from 7? I know the user interface looks different with boxes/blocks on screen, but is the os basically the same?

file system the same as far as I know so no reason to face problems docwise imo.. however, getting used to it is another concern.. I hated it :-\ its designed towards mostly for tablets and mobiles IMO..  same may like it but not for me

I prefer to back up all personal data and go for a clean install when I move from one OS to another Steve.

Thanks, Mark, but it won't just be a new OS, it will be a new PC. I know pc's are old hat but my lad needs one for his GCSE work.

Although, I guess if 8 is so bad on PC, as Cem says, then I could get him a laptop with touch screen. Hmmmm.....

Ah, I thought you were upgrading the OS.

Yes mate, all of the documents he works with in Win 7 will open quite happily in Win 8.
Obviously if we are talking (say) Word documents, then he will need a suitable Word processing package installed in order to work with them.
