My car is a Vauxhall Omega 2.2 CD petrol, manual 2003. I have read the how to here, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90523.0 but I still have some questions.

Is it better to get the oil seal from VX or can I use one from any retailer? Is one better than the other?

What is the smallest 3 leg puller that I can use to take the prop flange off?

VX recommend white silicon grease when putting the new oil seal in. Do I need to use this and where do I get it from?

Do I need to loctite the outer part of the new oil seal when fitting? I've seen some videos and they used loctite. But it was on different makes of car to the Omega.

How can I tell what type of diff is in my car?

What make and type of oil do I need to put in the diff?

Thanks

Use a genuine seal from GM.
:yyou mention silicone grease, just coat the seal in oil when refitting,to help it go in and some on flange when reffitting,
The Loctite you mention is not needed to prevent the seal moving,so you wont need it...
Just follow me DTMs excellent guide... :y

Do you know if a 3 leg 4" puller will be big enough to take the flange off?

Is the Silkolene BOA90LS oil ok to do a full oil change on a none LSD?

Thanks

I always advise using oil with the LSD additive as the friction modifiers appear to improve the seal life. As for supplier for the seal, the diff is a ZF part not Vx and little more than a lip seal so a good quality aftermarket supplier should be fine

I was telling a friend that I was going to get some Comma what Rob uses and he said he had a litre of Silkolene BOA 90 LS if I wanted it for a couple of quid. So I'm happy.  :)

Pinion oil seal now done.  :y

Things I would change next time from following the DIY oof pinion oil seal change guide. I think this guide is excellent and I would not have attempted this repair without it, thank you.  :y
Next time I will not be using ramps to raise the car. When I used the ramps I found I couldn't turn the wheels or prop shaft to get at the top bolts on the diff flange to undo them. This was my experience anyway.

I will take off the rear exhaust next time. Because it is partly in the way of gaining any good access to the diff pinion oil seal. I had a very difficult time levering the old seal out and tapping the new oil seal in with the exhaust in the way. I think this was due to the exhaust being a third party exhaust and maybe made a different shape from the original.

The 3 legged puller I used was a 4 inch. Just the right size.  :y

Hope this helps someone.
