What can cause the p1700 code
« on: 06 May 2014, 15:10:24 »

Ever since i've had this car, the p1700 code appears without provocation (I think)  :-\

The slushbox has had the oil topped up, then totally flushed and replaced with ATF.
The filter was also cleaned out in a nice bath of trichloethene over night then warm air dried and refitted.

The position P on the selector is dodgy so unless you stick it in neutral within 20 seconds or so of turning the ignition on, you get the dreaded abs / tc lights on and limp mode (different code anyway) but other then being a little temperamental when the oil is cold, it works okay  :-\

Any ideas ?

Its a generic code stored in the engine ECU that means the TCM has told it it is displeased with something. That may be due to a fault it's detected, or the ABS ECU (or engine ECU, esp on 2.2s) might have had a bit of a monk on, pissing off the TCM, which then tells the engine management that its got the hump.

Normally, I'd suggest reading Engine, TCM and ABS ECUs, and resolving all those faults.  So you may be on to something with the selector switch ;)

Okay, i'll plug in the laptop and check all the other bits to make sure I haven't got anything else in there.

Cheers TB  :)

If the battery is weak it's not unheard of for it to come up after a flat battery ;)

Not done a volt drop test but the car always spins over quickly even when very cold so I think the battery is okay  :)
Now I know its probably the selector, the next owner of the gearbox can fix that after i've had the driver involvement pack fitted  :D
That is, when if I ever get a job  >:( >:( >:(
