I give up
« on: 14 June 2008, 21:05:05 »

this new guy steve who seems pretty good with my LPG conversion managed to get it running practically perfect last weekend apart from it throwing up codes from the o2 sensors, down to a rich mixture

by thursday the car's running had seriously deteriorated, running lighty lumpy through revs and idling lumpy, it also cut out at low revs when switching to gas, the way they surge when the fans kick in to cool the engine, but twice i was on a busy road turning off onto side roads and nearly had accidents

he looks at it again today, fiddles with the mixture, has it running for a good while to fine tune, i test drive it, it flickers the EML just once but then runs perfectly aaaaaall the way home!

I leave it sat for 6 or 7 hours cos i stayed in, i go to drive it, it flicks on to LPG and runs like a bag of sh*t, struggles to rev steady, struggles to pick up power and splutters like its almost out of fuel (by the way, its not) so i flick it back to petrol while moving and it cuts out. i start it up and make my way back home on petrol, runs perfectly, i keep it sat there on my front to get decently warmed up, switch to gas and back to spluttering

i really have had enough, cant explain how upset i am

going out now

I would get them to take all the LPG kit off and give you a full refund. Enough is enough with these muppets Danny >:(

i know this sounds silly but it sound like the ECU is losing its settings, is there a perm live connected to the LPG loom?

Well,  the petrol ECU will have been "learning" all the time it was running rough so if LPG was calibrated while the long term fuel trims were in a state that may explain why it's gone out of tune again - or there could be some other problem with the system.

I've said it before but it's a shame you're so far away. :(

I dont think aftermarket lpg ECU's are that clever....they are pretty basic........could believe it on factory fit lpg ecu's.......they seem to do that......my veccies did........

I think Jay has a good point.......it might be forgetting its settings  :-/

i'm gonna go with Dazzler on this one i think, the original installer from this particular garage is clearly incompetent with LPG though it turns out that a couple of my mates (who i trust) happen to know him and he's VERY good with vauxhall engines, but Steve who took over and got it running better really has tried his best and never ever tried to fob me off with excuses, he constantly tried newer settings and did everything he could on the spot like his life depended on it

i wouldnt know if there's a perm live connected to the LPG loom

i'd be happy maybe a half refund and the kit being left in, but running it on petrol and maybe selling it as a project for someone. but as it  runs on gas practically all the time, they left the original coolant feed off and put one through the LPG system instead, therefore meaning i cant really run it on petrol!

ref the perm 12v - surely ecu stores in nv storage? Or does it all need resetting after disconnecting battery?

went and put petrol in it earlier, on my way back on my street i switched it to gas and it spluttered again, came in, had a look at your comments, went to check the evaporator heat cos i know it used to be too hot to touch, and it still is too hot to touch, took it round the block and it ran fine :-/

i suspect a loose connection somewhere, either way i'm speaking to steve again on monday and hopefully he'll sort it, and a guy local to me is doing my gearbox update this week aswell for a competitive price (sorry jaime, its only cos he's alot closer)
