Had to move mine recently, only been in the place less than 3 months, had a Text saying, slight increase in Rent effective August, from XXX to YYY, works out 27.5% increase 

Whilst Im not happy about having an increase considering the short time Ive been there, I do understand people have to review there Rental costs, but seems a bit steep to me, so thinking I know where this is going to end up, and before I shoot myself in the foot or burn my bridges, thought I would put in a reasonable counter offer of increase, but what figure???

And no, before anyone asks, there is no Rental Agreement in place (yea I know  )

Personally I think even 10% is high compared to UK Inflation and cost of living, or am I just being mean

Yea, thats not as bad as it sounds, as Im not there much, and there not on site either.

Plus she's one of these, what I call 'new communication types', doesn't answer real voice calls or Voice Mails, everything has to be text'd. Hate that

My daughters pa-in-law was turfed out of his premises because his landlord got a better offer,(gentlemans agreement haha).
It,s now a Co-op convenience store. Can,t trust anybody.

Personally I think that 27.5% is taking the piss.

A rise more closely linked to inflation would be more appropriate........let us say up to 5%.

Of course, you may have no alternative.

Landlords for commercial premises can start to claw back what they lost during the downturn, as demand is increasing.

In good times, commercial rents tend to go up above inflation, especially if the tenant takes care of the place  . This was a constant annual thing for my bro, until he convinced the landlord for his rented shop to sell - ok, it needed a massive business loan, but at least he has the stability of knowing he can stay there, and make improvements without getting penalised for doing so.
