Jaguar S Type
« on: 30 June 2014, 18:29:29 »

Would like to ask the more knowledgeable of you on here regarding motors whats your opinion on this Jag. A lad i associate with had his heart set on this particular motor up to when the seller reposted it with a gearbox problem. Do you think its a problem easily sorted or do you think there is something more sinister going on. Its on egay and here is its report. Many thanks in advance for any advice Steve.

REDUCED TO CLEAR THIS WEEK... + "PART EXCHANGE" WELCOME...HERE WE HAVE A GREAT LOOKING "GENUINE" JAGUAR S-TYPE SPORT, 3.0L V6 STEPTRONIC. 2002 WITH 153K AND FSH UPTO 150K. THERE  ARE 15 STAMPS IN THE SERVICE BOOK, MOST ARE JAGUAR DEALERSHIP. NEW MOT UNTIL JULY 2015. EXCELLENT GUNMETAL GREY METALIC BODYWORK WITH FANTASTIC PALE SLATE GREY LEATHER WITH BIRD EGG WALNUT AND CHROME DETAIL INSIDE. ABS, PAS, CD PLAYER, PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM, RCL WITH 2 FOBS, SAT NAV, AIRCON, CRUISE CONTROL, COMPUTER, IT HAS 19 INCH ALLOYS WITH  VERY GOOD TYRES, ELECTRIC  WINDOWS X 4. ELECTRIC MIRRORS... ALL THE ELECTRICS WORK PERFECTLY. ELECTRIC HANDBRAKE, ELECTRIC ADJUSTABLE MULTI- FUNCTIONAL STEERING WHEEL, FRONT AND REAR ARMRESTS, PUDDLE LIGHTS ON ALL DOORS, LOVELY TINTED WINDOWS, NEW BATTERY JUST FITTED. ESP, PHONE POINT ETC ETC  TO MUCH TO LIST, LOOKS GREAT FOR THE YEAR. IT HAS BEEN REDUCED BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWING... A MONTH AGO I WENT TO THE CAR AND I HAD LEFT THE LIGHTS ON IN THE GARAGE FOR A NUMBER OF DAYS... THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETLY DEAD / EMPTY.. NO RCL... IT OPENED ON THE KEY ...AND NO DASH LIGHTS AT ALL, NOTHING...  UP UNTIL THAT POINT THIS CAR DROVE "SUPERB" I REPLACED THE BATTERY AND NOW IT HAS A SLIGHT GEARBOX FAULT..... YES ALL BECAUSE OF A RUINED BATTERY.  I HAVE ASKED WHY THIS FAULT HAS ACCURED AND ITS BECAUSE ALL THE ELECTRIC WAS DRAINED FROM THE CAR AND THE ECU... AND THE GEARBOX NOW HAS NO REFERENCE POINTS... HENCE THE PROBLEM.  THE JAGUAR STARTS, RUNS AND DRIVES WITH NO PROBLEMS,  BUT ITS NOT PERFECT AS BEFORE.. IM JUST BEING 100% HONEST WITH EVERYONE ABOUT THIS LOVELY CAR. THIS GENUINE SPORT MODEL  AND YES I DO MEAN GENUINE,  WITH THE BOOT SPOILER AND "SPORT" ON THE V5 ... IS VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AT THE REDUCED PRICE OF UNDER 2K, IT WILL NEED TO BE HOOKED UP TO A COMPUTER AND SOME MONEY SPENT ON IT... IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL ME ANYTIME ON   07908173596   PX WELCOME

Both S types I know of with "gearbox issues" have needed a replacement box. If its a Ford era one, it has a Ford box with a gearbox made of chocolate, and best avoided.

I would avoid that one :y

Any way ebay is full of them at reasonable prices.

I would look on jag forums as well as these are prone to dodgy electrics :y

Based on an American Lincoln chassis.Gearboxes are I believe the "sealed for life"variety?Usually gearbox "issues" on any Jag from '97 on  means a replacement 'box required-unless it's a manual box.As ever willing to stand corrected by more knowledgeable folk on here.
