Headlamp replacement
« on: 05 July 2014, 09:03:29 »

I have a feeling that to change/replace headlights (the whole thing, not just bulbs) you have to remove the front bumper.

Have I recalled some Omega nonsense or will I have to take the damn thing off?

Can some one put me right?

You can get away with leaving it on, theres a bolt you will be able to see ( just) when you pull the trims off under the lights that can be got at with a long thin extension and a 10mm socket

Yep, 1/4inch drive with long extension(s) to get to the bolt behind bumper. Then tape the extension and ratchet together so you can pull the socket off the bolt when you use a smaller piece of tape to hold the bolt to the socket.

....or the bolt will fall off the socket and into the bumper, repeatedly, which is very annoying ;D

FL can be done without bumper removal, PFL Elite/MV6  can be, but a PITA, easier to spend 5 mins to remove bumper.

Thanks folks!

I have also seen Mr Haynes (which suggests not having to take off Bumper).

However, as my 98 MFL has the Irmscher front bumper, I can't take the grill off separately.....

That's why I remember the whole bumper off thing.
Looks like I will have to take it off after all........... :(

Bugger, Bugger, bugger.... >:(
