Although I can`t speak of owning a 'modern' Landy (seeing as my Series III is 25+ years old) but, I do frequent the LR4x4 Forum http://forums.lr4x4.com there`d be plenty of enthusiastic and honest advice for you about 110`s to read there.  :y

Parts for Landy`s are cheap and freely available...that includes body panels and chassis parts as well as mechanicals.....combined with being easy/simple to work-on and being in a low insurance group, they are attractive on many levels.
BTW: The decision on the diesel is also between normally aspirated or turbo versions.....they are a heavy vehicle so 'power' is an important consideration as well as economy. ;)

Recently sold my 82 S3 diesel. Main problem is chassis & bulkhead rot which can kill a Landy prematurely, you can end up with nothing left to weld to. Diesel is the way to go but early 2.5's have an annoying habit of cracking blocks. 110's are coil sprung so ride better than the series leafers but can disguise bush wear. (with a leaf spung you know when somethings worn) I love Landies but you have to view running one as you would a classic car as they can become a money pit.
Having said that they are tough as old boots, keep going against all odds, oooooooooze charm & character & pull other so called 4x4's out of the mucky stuff @ off road events.
           Go for it. :y
