I remember when I was a lot younger the advent of diesel cars. I know diesel had been around ages but they were going to be more economical and cheaper to run as diesel was cheaper. Here in Spain you are hard pressed to find a petrol car.

What happened? Well diesel shot up in price.

I am convinced(probably a lone voice) that diesels accelerated the proliferation of pollen fever in populations.

Now Boris wants to introduce a £10 pollution tax on diesels in London. How long before that is adopted elsewhere.?

Also proposed to apply to pre 2006 petrol cars... on the face of it not a bad idea, as the only way around it is to drive either a newer petrol car, or a Euro6 compliant diesel...

And before anyone bleats about trucks and buses any vehicle over 3.5t or with more than 8 passenger seats, and which isn't Euro4 (or better) compliant, has to pay £200 per calender day to basically enter inside the M25.

Doubtless the black cab drivers will be jumping up and down, but hey ho ::)

I think they enjoy it. They seem to do it a lot these days. Gor blimey! ;D

The thing is that diesel is always going to be a dirtier fuel than petrol, LPG, etc. because it's a heavy oil. The motor industry has sunk loads of research into common rail diseasels, DPFs, etc. and have come up with something that's now at least acceptable to drive but not as clean as a petrol car nor as reliable, especially in urban driving such as is carried out in London.

Had they put that money into cleaner petrol engines, or LPG, or something entirely different, we'd be in a much better place but no doubt the political lobbying and brown paper envelopes came from the diseasel camp so we are where we are.

Now the brown paper envelope supply has clearly dried up so the politicos are looking for a new swindle. ::)

Funny how we dont have any say in whats sloshed out to us  >:( But no one stands up in this country and say enough is enough  >:(

if diesel is that bad, try sitting in a locked garage with the engine running,

try it first in a diesel, half an hour ok

then try it in a petrol car, bet you dont make half an hour..........
