rocker cover bolt seal part number
« on: 20 August 2014, 20:53:22 »

Went to local  autoparts as vauxhall place bit of a trek.
Ordered rocker cover gaskets  he handed me payne  ones  but no o rings fir the bolts after 20 mins of comp searching and phone call he cannot find on system.

Its a 98 3.0 v6

Is this a dealer only part ?  I thought surely cant be hard to get the orings but he couldnt get part numbers or find them.  I havent opened gaskets yet as i maye return if i cant get o rings
they were 9.99 each .

caN any one shed bit if light please  .
thanks

As we (currently) recommend that these particular gaskets are only supplied by dealers, I've always got the o rings from the dealer as well.

We have yet to find a decent cam cover gasket that consistently lasts more than a few weeks, other than the genuine GM ones. Those Payen ones are know to go rock hard very quickly, and piss out everywhere  :'(

Sorry, I know its not want you want to hear.

Have a read through the guide. The black sealant is just used in the corners of the front cam bearing housing and on the D section at the back.

My N/side one went last  last year the day before we where due to go on hol,s (typical ) only ones I could get hold of at short notice on a Sunday were Elring gasket so fitted that using Hondabond HT sealant in all the right places the intention being purchasing Vaux kit on return from hols which I did and they are still sat in a draw waiting for the Elring ones to let go .Been over 12 months now and still OK so maybe I just got lucky but might be usefull for someone stuck with the same lack of time to fix ,parts not available scenario.
