Hi all, i was just doing some bits on the car, then i took the coil pack off not a good idea:

is it a gasket that has gone??

Yes, as simple as that...

Only the rocker gasket mate, nothing to worry about really

Cam cover gasket has gone by the look of it. Dead easy to do there is a guide here somewhere

Looks like water getting in to far left plug. Would indicate scuttle panel leaking I belive.

Thanks for the replies  . looks like i have a weekend job to do  just on question what is a scuttle panel ?
Where is the best place to get all the bits.

That and blocked crankcase breathers which caused the over pressure to start the gaskets leaking in the first place .

Scuttle panel is the black plastic cover that sits just below the front screen as is intended to deflect rainwater into pre moulded channels and carry it to drainage ports.You will need to remove both front wiper arms then the black push on trim that holds it to bulkhead.

Simple enough to remove assuming wiper arms can be pulled off motor spindles which is often easier said than done.Once scuttle is removed it will be in 2 sections and both require a sealnt applied where they fit over firewall.Also a good smear around wiper spindles before refitting .

All will be more obviuos once removed but sure there is a thorough guide

Caution, the small plastic scuttle retainers which have to be turned through 90° to release, are not captive, and will head for the hills as you release the scuttle if they are still in place.

Re scuttle;

It does not need to be removed to seal it, provided the scuttle to windscreen seal is seated correctly and not leaking. A gob of sealant around the drivers side spindle, preferably black or clear, not white anything from cam cover goo to gutter seal will do. The metal lip around the scuttle drain can be accessed from the engine bay with a mastic gun by lifting the scuttle and or opening and lifting the pollen filter section on the pas side.

But do remove the old draft excluder type foam vx used, just scrape it off, and make sure its all dry before sealing.

A hose on the screen will show you where the water is coming in if you look from the engine bay with bonnet up. Cover the engine with rags or a bin liner (make sure engine is cold if using plastic) to keep the water off the cp's.

The oil is cam cover seals, as the guys have said.

Looks like you could do with a new set of plug cover boots & springs too if those splits are as bad as they look

A little bit of copper anti-seize paste on the wiper spindles makes it easier for next time too as you will prob end up fighting to get them off in the first instance. i just keep rocking them back and forth gently until they feel like they've come loose
