Star silver Z147 vs Z157
« on: 18 November 2014, 16:28:19 »

Just on behalf of another OOFer - How would we stand fitting a bumper in Z147 on a car that is Z157? There's conflicting results on other forums - most saying the difference is not really noticeable - the beauty being this is a bumper, so there are never any two panels at the same angle, if you follow? Whereas if it were, say, a wing and a front door then the shade difference would be far more noticeable.

note: no idea if it is Z147 yet - I shall check via the VIN plate when I view the donor car, but just want to know beforehand :y

Might get away with it on a bumper, Ive walked around a car and thought hmm, 147 wing, 157 door, 147 boot etc.

You can notice the difference, especially on panels next to each other as you say. becomes more noticeable under the effects of strong sunlight at different angles, 147 has a hit of blue in there, 157 has a hit of gold.  ;)

If it's for the car I think it is, Z157 would be preferable unless unmarked :y athough plastics tend to appear a different shade to metalwork, so ou might just get away with it :-\

Only one way to find out :y

I'm with Zirk, if you have seen both you can tell the difference.

At one time I had two Z157 Omega's, VIN numbers were about 200 apart, parked side by side they appeared different shades of silver. Admittedly if one had been parked in a 'suntrap' most of it's life it would have had an effect of course.

147 is definitely more silver than 157.  157 has a gold hue to it in direct sunlight.

I reckon something as big as a bumper will stick out like a sore thumb..... a door-mirror cover you might get away with.

Until you offer it, up, who knows?

Mine`s 157 and it`s wearing a 147 rear bumper, 147 bootlip spoiler, 147 rear N/S door plus a 147 rear O/S door bump strip and I can see no difference.

I have one of each, and they are different.
