knocking noise n/s anti-roll bar bush
« on: 21 December 2014, 15:43:13 »

There is a clonking in my nearside front suspension. With a son bouncing nearside corner up and down and me in the pit, I found that holding the nearside anti-roll bar near the bush, the noise stopped. My guess is that the bush is allowing the bar to hit the subframe. Ergo, the bush is knackered and needs replacing.

I hope I can do this by undoing the two screws holding the bush cap to the subframe, removing the cap and changing the bush.  Is that all there is to it? Should I change the pair while I am about it?

Has anyone done this job? Do I need to disconnect the drop links first?

Only thing that needs removing is the engine tray. 15 minute job :y
Bracket bolts can be done from above, but access is easier from underneath when it comes to swapping the bushes...

You need to loosen all four clamp bolts, then undo two fully and the clamp can be twisted from under the other bolt. Just as easy to remove both bolts tbh :y

The desmond has room to remove the radiator without dismantling half of the induction system... which probably helps ;)

Got them both off. Haynes says put them back with the slits facing the rear of the vehicle. I found them with the slits facing forward. Does it matter? What should I do?

job done. Thanks to all for help. Took me a little more than 15 minutes, though. Every bolt was tricky to undo, then tricky to replace, different approach to every bolt.

I send seasons greeting to all forum members, and thanks for the help received during the year, especially over the clutch replacement in January. In the past I have scrapped cars when clutches failed, and I have scrapped many. Not  any more. I shall need a bit more practice before I get down to JamesV6CD's time of 4 hours though.
