I'm confused ::) ::) ::) ::)

If your DRIVE belt comes off then the engine will not turn over without the valves hiting the pistons, so "limping home" is not usually an option.

Unlikely then that your problem is the main drive belt but an auxilary belt. ;)
I think the fact that the coolant temp rose, the alternator charging lamp lit, the car lost power steering but the owner was able to drive the car should be enough to work out which belt is being discussed here.

Surly that would have cooked the engine  :-\

Isn't that what I said #1? ;)

 :-X ;)

I was doing 70 ish on the M6 and my aux pulley shattered wrapping the belt around every where  :o Luckily i was near an exit ramp and coasted to a halt . I wouldnt risk driving it at any distance after that breaks  :-\

Exactly what happened to me. It was dark, it was freezing, and the wedding party awaited my arrival. I hoped I could make it on the battery, but it overheated so fast I failed to. I locked the car in a layby at Starcross and strode briskly to Dawlish Warren. Wedding party was relieved to see me (my phone was out of battery) and the wedding breakfast could proceed.
I returned home in wife's car, collected tools and a spare belt, and returned to car. Found I could not repair it at the roadside, so had the AA relay it home.

Took my Ex less than 5 mins to totally destroy the Engine on one of my Ex Plod V6 when the Water Pump Pulley throw the Aux belt.

By the time she was recovered off the M25 and I arrived to inspect the damage, there was no coolant left, HG's were cooked and Engine was turning over like someone had removed all the spark plugs.

Only thing left that was still working was a still fully charged battery  :(.

Close,

something like "Red Lights come on, but all is good", then me on the phone telling Her to stop the  Car and call recovery,

followed by "More lights have come on and its a bit sluggish now", me saying stop the Car now.

Next Phone call was, "Cant stop, Im on the M25, Oh hang on, ffs, its stopping of its own accord now".
