Hi. Got a starter motor (thanks omegod) but he says it's not all that simple to replace and suggested booking it in. As time is of the essence, I'm keen to get it done tomorrow (only because now too dark tonight). Anyone with a step by step to how please? Thanks in advance

Should be able to do it from underneath with sump guard removed.

That's what I gathered from what I've read. Remove under tray, remove heat shield around starter (seems the worst bit with seized bolts) then take plugs/cables off, unbolt and remove. Opposite to fit. What's access like?

I was stripping the car so I went in from the top , turbo off etc and thought it looked tricky to do from underneath but fingers crossed for you ! Get stuck in tomorrow and i'm sure you'll get it done. Nice to meet you btw

Cant be anyworse than doing a 2.2 petrol starter on a frontera,where you have yo remove inlet manifold to get to starter.

You too. Never know I might be back if a) I struggle to part with it (probably the real reason it's been sat on the drive 6+ months!) Or b) i get p****d off with it and offer it you for breaking lol

Jacked it up, took wheel off for better access. Didn't help the bloody track rod and anti roll bar are in the way, after that I've no room to get tools in from what I can see. I can touch it. That's about it. And by the look of it, it's got them stupid star bolt things whatever they're called and I don't have sockets for them. What's wrong with normal hexagonal bolts??? I can see myself ranting here.....

8mm and 10mm standard sockets will work ok on the star bolts

Good to know for future thanks. But I've given up on this now. Too fiddly for me so will be booked in the garage this week. There's a big hill 30 seconds walk from me so it's parked at the top of that for now lol
