Climate heater fan control question.
« on: 10 February 2015, 12:15:24 »

Heater climate control set to 22 deg on auto. The temp outside is 2.5 deg. On Omega 2.2i CD 2003.

When I first start the car the fan is blowing very gentle for the 1st minute and then very, very slowly increasing to full. This takes nearly 8 minutes. Is this normal?

The windscreen instantly mists up and I can't see out of the windscreen for the first few minutes due to this. It will clear quickly if I put the fan on full in manual mode.

Thanks

Yeah. It's Climate Control - so doesn't want to simply pump freezing air into the cabin, and will only start to do that upon the air becoming warm - ie: once the engine is warmed up. 8 mins sounds about the same as mine. Of course you can manually override the system, as you have done and put the screen blowers on, but as you'll have noticed, this air is still pretty cold.

I started this morning from a car completely covered in ice, jumped in, started the engine, heated seat on, heated rear screen and mirrors on, and held the revs at approx 2,000rpm, with the front screen blowers on full. After 4 minutes the front and rear screen ice had melted, and all side windows were clear 'enough.' Clicked the front screen blower off, back to 'Auto' and set off for work. After five mins on the road the fans had built up and died down to a nice constant 21oC. That sounds about right to me  :)
