Canbus cars
« on: 27 April 2015, 12:25:25 »

Hi all....
The lady opposite wants me to fit Reversing sensors to her 2008 Citroen C3 1.6 Exclusive. I fitted them on her old car, and she dropped the hint she really misses them, so I took the hint and got some from the same place I got mine from the bay.
On the old car, I just used the red and black for connections. However...this set of sensors comes with a yellow wire also, to tap into the ignition, or ACC on CAN BUS cars.
I have googled but I can't find the answer to my question, which is...Is the C3 (2008) 1.6 Exclusive a CAN BUS car or can I just use the red and black wires as normal.
I believe its something to do with lowered voltage or something ??? I am sure someone on here will come up with an explanation :y
This CAN BUS malarkey is double dutch to me...never heard of it till I got my sensors ???

Yes it is CAN but, this should not impact how you go about wiring up the parking sensors.

The sensors use naff all current so shouldn't impact the bulb failure warnings etc.

Remember, CAN actually has little impact on the main wiring of a vehicle and final connection to the vehicle loads, its nothing more than a communication Bus. Its made even worse by the approach of associating integrated check control systems with CAN......its not CAN that causes issues with LED bulbs etc, its the integrated check controls....

Thanks Mark.... :y

So i'll wire red to reversing light live, and black to ground as normal.
Just out of curiosity, what happens if it did not like that wiring. ;)

It will.....well as much as a French car likes any wiring.

Can you link to the model so we may look at the wiring setup, it might be that they use a pos supply and neg supply then the additional wire is a low current feed to tell the sensors to activate.

All I can say, Mark, is its a Citroen C3 1.6 Exclusive, 2008.

Wired up initially, sensors did not work. Put a meter on and only got 9volts at the reversing light feed. Tried them on my battery and they worked perfectly. So I ran a wire to the feed from the radio (12v) and back to the sensor control box. All works...with the exception that when you start up, the display says faulty indicators, faulty lights, faulty sidelamps etc.
Tearing my hair out now :(

Walked away from it last night, locked it and left it till this morning.......strange.....all working now, and so far, no faulty bulb/light messages. I think, by reading on the C3 forums, there is a major earthing problem with the C3 rear lighting clusters. This faulty lights malarkey seems very, very common.
