Hi guys, how are you?

Got another timing belt coming in next week (they've purposely booked it in later in the week for me  ) and the head mech. has promised me that ''you'll enjoy this one''. 

So anyways I've had a quick butchers on the net and first oddity is that the timing belt is on the near side....most trasverse engines are the belt end is the off side.but no biggy 

The other oddity from the quick video I watched is that the alternator and pas pump have to come out. I didn't watch vid til the end (swmbo made me walk the dog  ) but I guess this is for clearance to access the covers?

and finally...the valve cover comes off.....why is that when I thought the camshaft timing mark was aligned with the cylinder head???

ps, martin, if you get 5 mins would you mind e mailing me the autodata stuff on this belt to read through. that would be totes amazeballs!  if you don't get a chance no worries...just like to be as prepared as possible

If it is single cam,piece of cake,remove alternator,coil packs,cam cover,timing cover,there is timing marks on pulleys,no locking kit needed,also change water pump.

ps does this engine turn anti clockwise?

assuming that this is the right procedure and ive not got confused with the civics in the u s of a....

engine turns anti clockwise and this is the set up (ive marked timing marks in green)

Thats the right 1 mate,also there is a sensor you need to unplug as it runs through the cambelt cover.

thanks martin. its the crank sensor that gets removed isn't it?

you put ya tensioner finger tight, route the belt and then as the tensioner has a spring and hook assembly, the hook hooks over a pin on the block.....when you put the hook on and the tensioner tensions will that move the crank pulley?

Cant remember about the tensioner,been several years since i did it.

fair enough mate. just wondering if its worth positioning crank a tooth before tdc so that when the tensioner tensions the crank then moves in to time (if you follow).

There s a crank pulley lock tool that you may need to undo the crank pulley bolt cause they are bloody tight,tool fits the hexagon shape on the crank pulley with a hole for the socket to pass through,like the link below

I managed ok with my breaker bar to undo crank pulley

was more concerned about the tensioning....

as theres no crank or cam lock, I got crank and cam set to TDC.....when I set the tension will that move crank out of line? if so should I back off the crank before tdc to take in to account the tensioner pulling it round?

Last one I did even a 3/4 inch windy gun wouldn't touch it,if its been done before it will come off ok
