Still got the "Magic Roundabout" I think; used to love that.  Even better zooming in, through and out that along the straight stretch of road without Gatso's!  :y :y :y

There may be, according to our news, political trouble "down the council"  about actually discountinuing these cameras as planned! :'(

I can smell the steam, smoke, and diesels!  All so good!   Have the 50's, apart from preserved examples, all gone now?

50017 Royal Oak - had tow very good runs including one where I think the governer had been played with - it may have been on eof the played with class 50s in the early 80s.

There were soem tests carried out, AFAIR one 50 was running at 2900bhp and another at 3150bhp and to be honest Royal Oak was performing like a type 5.

If you want to see good 50 running look on youtube for 50049 55022 and you will see that out of the stations the 50 is doing most of the work, and the noise, whereas at speed the Deltic is doing a lot, but 6000bhp sometimes 8000bhp to play with is a lot.

For the people wondering

Pre HST there were only two 100mph rated Diesel designs, both English Electric.

One was the most powerful Diesel in the world when built at 3300bhp - class 55 Deltics and the 50 is a V16 with 2700bhp

I watched a goods train getting ready to leave Jasper, Alberta once. Walked from the rear end to the front and I'd say it was more than a mile. Had a chat with the driver as he was waiting to depart. 3 circa 5000 BHP locos at the front, another 2 half way down the train. :o

That lot shook the ground when it departed. Seemed to be on the throttle for about 30 seconds before you could see the wheels turning. As the rear of the train passed me it was still only at walking pace.
