I bought 1 of those cheap as chips Baofeng UV5-R a couple of years ago,and it can do more than all my old radios put together, except for HF frequencies, but it does everything else...
I thought to myself, for £30 I can't go wrong even if I just leave it in my car for emergencies...
Iv charged it once, and its still on a full battery 2 years later.... just can't beat it...
All my radios are Yaesu, I even have the old faithful FT290r Mk2 with Mutek front end preamp, which still works 100%. I also have a Sommerkamp FT290R, which is exactly the same radio set as the Yaesu but was aimed at the US market... I have a FT23R, very old handheld 2M only radio - which by todays standards is very very limted in what it can do, even with its mighty 2.5W max output.... when it was new, it was the latest thing to have, but its so outdated now....
