The actual data is on the rear side of what looks like the label .. it is NOT on the plastic disc as most folk think. The plastic disc can be cleaned with anything as long as it is not scratched, scratches deflect the laser as it tries to pass through the disc to reach the data on the "other" side. So, keep the "label" or "printed" side dry and safe.. then you can wash/wipe the clear side to your hearts content. I find neat washing up liquid on a bit of cotton wool, followed by a good few wipes with damp paper towels, then a final dry with a tea towel always cleans off the rubbish the kids put on .. one day they "might" learn to handle them only by the edges ..........  but I won't hold me breath !!

If you are like me, you'll have loads of make-up wipes available.  :-*

Or any type of wet-wipe, damp toilet tissue...... etc

As Entwood said, anything which won't scratch the plastic.

I've resorted to quite abhrasive stuff in the past, but that was due to a whole stack of my early DVDs going cloudy

Yep, toothpaste can be a handy abrasive, or even car polish. Soapy water normally does the trick, mind.
