Long Road and Rail tunnels
« on: 01 June 2016, 16:19:42 »

Impressive engineering building the Gotthard rail tunnel that has just opened today. Bit longer than Eurotunnel

I remember driving through the St Gotthard road tunnel back in 1980 I think. It was depressing and so long but only 10miles. What was impressive were the birds using it to fly through to save going over on their migration.

That opening ceremony looks like it should have been in the olympics. Probably had an EU grant ;)

I could be mistaken, but surely Switzerland would actually need to be in the EU to qualify... ::)

Just to add, they seem to manage quite well outside the EU :-*
