Methane and lots of it has been found locked in what is dubbed flammable ice on the sea bed. 1 cubic metre of the ice has some ridiculous amount of methane like 16 cu metres inside. All that is needed is a safe and economical method of harvesting it.

I suspect the Chinese island builing in the South China Sea and Scarborough shoal is all about rights to this huge wealth in years to come.

China is the biggest user of fossil fuel in the world, so they need lots of it

With finite amounts of fossil fuels which we are using faster than they can be replenished, long term I'm all for nuclear and renewables taking over. But I also understand that we are still a long way from viable cheap renewable energy systems. The tree huggers think this is a ruinous dash to replace fossil fuels but the reality is that it is a long marathon!
