Let's hope that our great grandchildren remember the Merlin as one of the most important deciders of the way we live in the 21st century. If Germany had managed to keep air supremacy we would have been sunk.

It powered:
Spitfire
Hurricane
Mosquito
Lancaster
Bristol Beaufighter
Halifax
Wellington
Among others. Including the American Kittyhawk and Mustang.
(On a lot of these planes, the Merlin was fitted as an improvement over the original).

Respect  :y :y :y

The Merlin engine enabled the American bombers to have full fighter escort over Germany provided by Mustangs. A far superior engine than the oridginal  fit Allison engine, the Merlin having a far better ceiling height due to it not having the icing up problems of the Allison
