Over 1,100 miles, over 24hrs of driving time, 4 people, luggage, over 29mpg (indicated), 3 trips to LHR, 1 trip to Stanstead, 1 mountain pass shrouded in fog, probably 50 quid in parking fees, one blown fuse, and a remote that needs 10 seconds' attention with a soldering iron.  Not bad at all!  

Thanks a bunch EP, MDTM, et al for advice on the fuse.  Hasn't blown it again yet, so maybe the bearings just caught for a split second.  Will get another spare just in case.

Everyone thought it was a very comfortable car, and in great shape!  Just coming up to 168K now.

That trip was obviously a great credit to you Theolodian and your maintenance schedule.  Well done, and I bet it was all very enjoyable.

Just one question that occurs to me is:  did the car have any performance issues when tackling the mountain passes? :-/ :-/

I ask this as I have always believed that a car that is usual driven at about sea level (which most UK cars are compared to other parts of the World) has to be "adjusted" for huge differences in altitude that you find on the continent.  Is this right or am I still living in the great days of the carburetta? :-? :-?

Not an issue for modern EFI cars.  The only caveat is that you should boot it once in a while to 'wake it up'.  My 3.0L gained several tens of HP in the first few weeks I had it, probably a combination of old petrol and not being driven aggressively for a long time before then.

Yep. No running problems but my Omega was performing like a 1.2 Corsa at the top of the Stelvio pass (2757m) .

Oddly, there were still 1.2 Corsas and the like getting up there - slowly (and motorhomes, although, probably being Turbo Diesels I guess they were much less severely affected).

Thats what Migs were built for. No back or leg ache, nice and quiet. I missed mine on this years trip abroad. If you are using a ferry get a quote from Norfolk Line, Dover - Dunquerqe, ( Dunkirk ) cheap as chips and all ships are new.

Thanks.  However, we booked Eurotunnel in the end.  10 quid more than the ferry return.
