Hello from a MK1 Cavalier owner
« on: 20 February 2025, 12:44:32 »

Hello there!

Thanks for letting me join. I don't have an Omega but I do have a Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 (Opel Ascona B).

I have the GM TH180 3 speed auto box in currently and wanted to see what information and guidance I could get about fitting (and finding!) one of the 4 speed automatic transmissions AW0371L or AW0371LE. I understand one is controlled by more sensors and ECUs so might be more difficult but I'll see what information is kicking around the forum on what kind of setup would be needed

Oh Hey! cam.in.head. I thought I'd join here to get some more specific information not available on OMOC. Who knew you were on both forums!

yes we get about a bit us classic owners!
but yes to fit to the cam in head engine you have the autobox that was fitted to later mk1 senators .(circa 83-86) which had a switch to bring on the o/d.
now maybee on the later senator b 86-94 there was a more advanced version that could be made to fit and work but im not sure as never had the later type. theres also the unit that was fitted to the carlton 2.2 which is essentially the same box as our mk1 cavs but with a lock up clutch system that although still a 3speed and i never notice any great advantage on it . (my carlton has it but one of my cavs with a 2.2 and proper carlton 2.2box without using  the connector / lock up) and no real issues or differences that i can detect.
no doubt there are other boxes that can be made to fit and work as im pretty sure its a removeable bellhousing .
