Thanks Steve and Andy. Been hunting around the house for 'funeral clothes'. Haven't needed to wear anything like that for years now, I'm always out with the dog. Got a decent coat and a shirt and tie. Plenty of shoes tucked away, but all of my trousers seem to have shrunk around the waist. Don't know how that happened  :-\

I have the same thing with mine. I blame the wife putting them on too hot a wash.  :y ;D

Sons Civic overheating again, with loss of heat from the vents, after being fine since I put a bottle of flushing stuff through it a couple of weeks ago.
Got what I can only describe as thick soap suds type of stuff at the top of the rad when engine is running.
So presumably thats either residue of the flushing agent or head gasket failure.
Ime though HGF would be a stream of bubbles rather than something that looks like the inside of a washing machine before it starts the rinse cycle.  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

This started not long after the cambelt & waterpump were changed. Could be dodgy waterpump, but can a mechanical waterpump work intermittently ?  :-\ :-\

Had thought of throwing a new Rad on it to eliminate blocked fins, cool spots and the like, but I dont like playing parts darts.
Maybe a sniff test to check for exhaust gas in coolant ?

This. There are a few options that could cause it, best to eliminate the most expensive first  :y

If its got a plastic impeller that's started to break down you could have a bit of plastic fin inside the impeller chamber that gets in the way occasionally and stops the pump spinning. I had a similar issue with a clutch once where a piece of friction material had broken off and occasionally prevented the clutch from disengaging  ???.

If you can whip the water pump off easily, I'd do this second, if exhaust gasses have been ruled out.

Third guess (and it would be a guess) would be a coolant cap as it could give you similar symptoms as a partially blocked rad but is easier and cheaper to change  :y

I have a single suit now, that's used for weddings, christenings, funerals and interviews.  Obviously, it gets lnext to no use for weddings and christenings now...

Bizarrely, over xmas, it appears all my clothes have grown, and even my belts are too big. WTF?

Wtaer pump is less than a year old, although that doesnt rule out it being faulty.
Its a real ballache to remove/ refit. It runs off the cambelt, which is a pig of a job because of really tight access.
I might be prepared to have a go at that if it was summer weather anfd I had no timesacale for getting it running again.
If we go down that route, he will probably have to buy another cheap car and gorget about this one until some time in the summer when I have changed the waterpump on this one.
I think test for exhause gases with an ebay kit. I f thats ok try and blast water under a bit ( but not too much) pressure around the outside of the Rad, and change the coolant cap.
Maybe flush it again and make sure its well bled to rule out airlocks.
Aint doing any of it in this weather though.

Thanks for the advice.  :y

…………
The number of times I went to pick up the phone and call him, as was my nightly routine for years, was ridiculous.
…………

Even though I’ve lost both of my parents, I still have their landline and mobile phone numbers in my mobile. I can’t bring myself to delete them.

I don't know anyone's number, I use their name. If I lost my phone, I'd be knackered  :)
