Insignia Passenger Air Bag
« on: 25 October 2008, 20:30:32 »

Just noted a thread on an air bag querry that has reminded me that the new Insignia has a passenger air bag on/off switch mounted on the driver's side of the facia corner that faces the door. 8-) 8-)

Is that a standard control now on new cars? :-?   Is it so you can safetly have a childs seat on the front passenger seat? :-?

It's on a few older cars but usually key operated and hidden away in the glovebox or somewhere.

Just my limited opinion but:
- It is so you can fit a child seat
- It is not standard
- I remember looking at VW Bora a few years ago and some had it and some didn't - about #85iirc to have vw add a key in the glove box.

I am sure someone with more knowledge will come on soon!

Usually on cars that share lots of bits with other models that have 2 or 3 doors.  So you will find it on things like a Passat, even though the interior has little in common with a 3-door Golf.  It does seem to be spreading even beyond that now though.

I have a new'ish Citroen and the passenger air bag can be disabled, using the onboard computer, which controls everything :) if you can work out how to use it.... ::)
