Was it me or were they all, with the exception of the Lincoln, european cars.  Hmmm  me thinks a bit of Pro-America Journalism is going on there.

I know Mercedes have suffered in recent years and the Freelander is dire but surely there should be more American cars on there.  Theire European arms always do crap in What Car, Top Gear etc. and we get far superior cars to the yanks.

Never have liked beemers (tho wouldnt say no to some of the older m3s!), just seems that a) half the cars you see on the roads now are bmw and b) their level of kit is hardly "luxurious" unless you want to splash out on all the options. Must say, for the money, my cdx with leather option is far more luxurious than most bmws ive been in and thats even with the nice plastic walnut trim!

mercedes demise came from their union with chrysler corp.

That's when the quality started to drop, and the cheap components and fittings began to rule the spreadsheets.

Ask any merc technician who's of reasonable years, and they all tell you that early 90's - 92 were the last of the true mercs.

Now they're just plagued with electrical problems from the word go.  If it wasn't for the CLK, merc would have been finished years ago.  It was the CLK cabrio that revived their fortunes.

BMW are unfortunately a very good car. very solid and a good drivers car, they always have been, that coupled with the great engines (which is why we put one in our 3 seater 15 years ago) and gearboxes is why they've been predominently driven by cocks.

The freelander is a shocking bag of crap, with known issues going back under warranty time and time again.  Unfortunately the german manufactuers cottoned on early that thickie europeans, and the english in particular were more than happy to have their pants pulled down for all the extras, and that where they make the real money.  £45 parking sensors sold as optional parktronic for £800 anyone?

I dont agree..Mercedes still making the most reliable sedans..
