you sure its fibre glass and not ceramic? all the ones I have seeen are ceramic, its an insulator but technical name escapes me, afaik we had to replace the whole igniter as the ceramic is moulded onto the wire.

you will need the make and model of the cooker to find the correct part. can you post a pic and the make and model? if its the bit in the oven that sparks to the pilot assembly it is the electrode and you can possibly order one from a local plumbing supplies or atleast the might help you find a supplier!!

its also worth a visit to the local tip as you can sometimes get a replacement if they are hard to track down but i think they are mostly a standard type and can be swappable on some cookers!!

alas without more details its hard to say what is what!!

Have you tried the manufactrers web site model of cooker you may be lucky but if its 5 yrs old or more don`t hold out much hope.
British Gas and its exellent parts system disappeared in 1995 and with it all the rules on how long serviceable parts have to be held in stock,as well as my job.

the actual igniter itself is ceramic but there is a bare wire coming out of it and as such is protected by a sleeve until it dissapears into the bottom of the oven

i have checked the manufacturers website and the cooker is discontinued,
it is a baumatic bt2550ss
i have however located a source selling the ceramic end , however this is not the part required,

i am certain the sleeve i need is of fibreglass manufacture and i reckon i only need approx 2 ft max

you need some of that stuff they use on the power cord of irons to help stop it melting thru the cable, think its made of teflon. not sure if the diameter would be right tho?

http://www.4baumatic.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=278859&query=BT2531SS&model=BT2531SS&path=110822

is a ceramic coated igniter with the bit that sparks in the fore of the picture, is that whats broke or is it the electrode wire that connects to the spark generator?

a call to the above or http://www.cooker-parts.co.uk/10228/contact.php might help

it is neither the ignitor or the electrode wire that is broken it is the insulation around the electrode wire that is broken and allowing the spark to hit the bottom of the oven rather than sparking at the electrode :y

in that case you could probably take it from any oven really that has insulation in the same way. i would definatly give the above a ring and see what they suggest! you may have to buy the whole wire to get it sorted!!!!
