Without one, the hound can potentially jump out when the tailgate is opened - have this prob with Mrs H21's 307.  Got a crate in the estate though so already has a seperate door to stop the pooch leaping out with the tailgate open....  

But in this case its not a separated section so you would only be opening the back to let the mut out.

Sorry, being deliberately provocative as I struggle to see a real engineered advantage (rather 'real' engineers eh!)
