Sorry, we keep mentioning the kids, but surely the parents also need to carry some of the blame as well?

In the "old days", yes, TB -- but not, it seems, these days  

I recall, just after I left school, there was this "freedom of choice" ethos --- where kids weren't forced to learn anything they didn't wish to, or do anything they didn't wish to !!!!  Those kids went on to become parents --- and their kids are a large proportion of today's problems !!!!!

Just to point out that according to Wikipedia, poor James Bulger didnt have his fingers cut off with scissors or batteries forced inside him.

The batteries were put into his mouth, nowhere else.

Nonetheless, a truly shocking shocking crime.

Its always a bit difficult in cases like this to know the true facts as the media hype things up so much to sell papers etc. All I can say is that 1)surely, at even their young ages, the murderers shouldve known the difference between right and wrong and, therefore ,must take responsibility for their actions 2) their upbringing by their parents is obviously a factor but should not be made an excuse for their actions 3) if it were your son/daughter who had suffered at their hands ,no guesses for your reaction (and I for one firmly believe that in such cases there is no moral -and therefore, in theory, legal-problem in such revenge) and 4)whilst many might say that all children are innocents until parenting/conditioning plays its part, I do believe that some people are born evil-remember the pictures in the press of his murderers ? Why spend such money on these scum? Are they really "rehabillitated"? Lets hope karma works eh   In the meantime my thoughts are with James's parents.

Normally id agree but seeing as they were so young maybe the backgrounds should have been looked into deeper.

After all kids might have a fight laugh and then shake hands but they dont normaly go too the lengths these two did...what triggered them into doing it.

Certainly wouldn't let them out....stick them in solitary and liquid cosh them daily.

I for one sincerely hope so, they should never have been considered for release let alone shipped to sunny Oz to start a fresh.

Hopefully they have been given jobs on one of the beaches,  To attract Sharks away from swimmers.  Budget strectches to a pair of trunks and some fish oil to help them swim faster..

In the eyes of the law they have served their sentence.

In my view it should be the case that someone is tried, sentenced, then they serve their sentence.  After that it should be done and dusted.  Justice should have been done and the offender should be justified.

Lamentably we are consistently sentencing people and not ensuring that they serve their sentence.  Consequently we have a whole army of people in our society who have not discharged their guilt.  Also another army of aggrieved non-offenders who feel offended against a second time.

The whole process of sentencing needs to be reviewed so that appropriate sentences are handed down in the first place, then they are served out.  Convenience and overcrowding of facilities should not play a significant part.

The James Bulger affair was a very sad reflection on what our society can conjure up.

Transportation finished years ago so why are they accepting them?

The parents should be named and shamed too, thats half the problem these days, its not the kids that are the problem, its the parents!
