I noticed my mid section of the exhaust had some pin holes & needed welding. So i set about it today, but when i got the car in the air & i was proding around, i stuck my finger through the exhaust . So i set about loosening the bracket (which came free easy ) Then after removing the back box i also found that needed welding too
I've welded the back box up & that should last a while now
The mid section's still on the car, because the stud snapped on the flange to the Cat & the second one's gona do the same but every things loosened off & ready for more welding tomorrow. The little stainless bracket just down from the turbo was right a pig, because some silly arse had used a mild steel 13mm nut instead of a stainless one. I had to use a nut splitter to remove it in the end
The cat's gona be removed & a section of pipe welded in place. Diesel's don't need cats & so this should make a difference on performance So i've been told by a diesel specialist (we'll see)

One thing that's puzzled me was upon removing the back box there was no difference in noise levels :-? :-? So i could drive around with no back box at all

What happens come MOT time? I do know that my clit valver had had its cat removed but sailed through it MOT  :-/

The turbo doing its' job. Extracting energy from the exhaust gases.

yep Turbo is effectively a very good silencer as it extracts the energy form the gasses, mine hasnt had a rear box for 3 years now but does have twin pipes as many will know never had slightest problem on MOT test!! have driven it with tailgate open on first catch, and the noise when the turbo is on full chat is lovely!! on tickover  you wouldnt know anything was missing!!

Yep, turbo vanes are excellent at absorbing the energy of the exhaust gases (which is what they are supposed to do)

The cat section bolts onto a down pipe from the turbo via a flange & two bolts, i've never seen a petrol version so i'm  :-/ :-/
